Dragon Quest: The Card GameGenre: rpg - dungeon
Publisher: HAL
Year: 1992
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Looks like D&D but plays like Dragon Quest. Movement is done with the d-pad and actions are enabled via pop-up menus and face buttons (hallelujah) Random battles Gain experience just like in jrpgs like DW/FF Gameplay amounts to aimlessly wandering a seemingly endless dungeon while fighting in random battles. Pretty boring At least there's a map!
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Endless dungeon. Why do people like this sort of thing?
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Typical japanese story-driven setting with party members who join and leave the party with the core hero character. At least one NPC to talk with so I assume there are others
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Anime style character models Enemies are all shown as cards, which is a bit weird Environment has a few frames of animation which is much better than D&D but still not very attractive. Artwork is generally well drawn but extremely repetitive. It's just an endless dungeon.
Audio Score: 5
Audio Notes:
One of the most underrated soundtracks of the era. Probably because no one has heard it. It is so, so good. Sound effects are great too
