Super Uno for SFC

Image
Review #2448 Super Uno The worst way to play a great party game SFC 1993 Tomy Tabletop Tabletop › Cards H 36 / 100 Horrible Screenshot used for review/reference purposes. 1 / 5 Gameplay Is there anything sadder than playing a card game alone? Solitaire is so named to drive home this very concept, but at least it's designed to be a single player game. Uno, on the other hand - despite having a similarly singular name - has no business being played alone. And because it's on the telly, you can't very well play it with a friend. Covering your eyes just don't do it, I'm afraid. Besides, who in their right mind wouldn't bust out one of the five decks of Uno cards you've got lying around before considering a menu-driven game a digital Uno? No one, that's who. ...

Medal City for MD

Image
Review #6044 Medal City Tax for the mathematically challenged simulator MD 1991 Sega Tabletop Tabletop › Cards X 7 / 100 You've been warned Screenshot used for review/reference purposes. 0 / 5 Gameplay Digital poker, blackjack, and slots. Why a person would want to play this is beyond me, but I've never understood the appeal of gambling. It's simple math, and this game is decent way of learning that lesson. You can't beat the house, especially when it's all-digital. The only "gameplay" here are a couple of menu button presses. 0 / 5 Level Design Again, digital poker, blackjack, and slots. No configuration. No modes. Nothing. 1 / 5 Theme Zero presentation. Couldn't be less appealing if it ...

King Of Casino for TurboGrafx-16

Image
Review #7045 King Of Casino Another gambling simulator TG-16 1990 NEC Tabletop Tabletop › Cards X 24 / 100 You've been warned Screenshot used for review/reference purposes. 1 / 5 Gameplay Five games: poker, blackjack, roulette, slots, and keno The games are severely cut down and simplified. Consequently poker is no fun and the others games are pure luck. So, not much fun unless you like rolling dice repeatedly. Navigation is done with a mouse cursor. 1 / 5 Level Design You can visit 15 different casinos with the same games at each. The only difference is the min and max wagers allowed and the number of tables in each casino. 1 / 5 Theme I've got zero interest in gambling so this does nothing for me. It's mildly...

Caesar's Palace for Genesis

Image
Review #4089 Caesar's Palace Create your gambling addiction in a safe space Genesis 1993 Virgin Tabletop Tabletop › Cards X 9 / 100 You've been warned Screenshot used for review/reference purposes. 0 / 5 Gameplay Weird controls for exiting a game. Gotta press Down + Start. You can wander around a casino and pick the table and game you want to play. Then you press some buttons and lose virtual money to the house. Poker and blackjack require a bit of strategy I suppose, although it's virtual poker. Well, virtual virtual poker so you can't count cards or anything similar. These games are just not fun to play. I've never understood their appeal. 1 / 5 Level Design Blackjack, Keno, Roulette, Scratchers, Horse Racing, Red Dog, Craps, Video P...

Vegas Stakes for SNES

Image
Review #668 Vegas Stakes The gambling visual novel SNES 1993 Nintendo Tabletop Tabletop › Cards H 26 / 100 Horrible Screenshot used for review/reference purposes. 1 / 5 Gameplay Without a doubt the better of the two casino sims, but it's still just dumb games of chance. The game has a plot which makes it a bit more interesting and random events like people needing a ride to the E.R. or needing to sell you a watch. Kind of some dark humor and questionable moral experiences. 1 / 5 Level Design The games actually play nicely, for what they are anyway. Poker is kind of fun Blackjack Roulette (uggh) Craps (worse than roulette) Slots 3 / 5 Theme You're one of five friends and your goal is to make a bunch of money on a...

Super Solitaire for SNES

Image
Review #594 Super Solitaire One is the loneliest number SNES 1993 Extreme Tabletop Tabletop › Cards E 61 / 100 Your mileage may vary Screenshot used for review/reference purposes. 3 / 5 Gameplay Works surprisingly well. I played for over an hour and didn't mind the controls. The only niggling issue I have is that it asks for confirmation and to dismiss the modal you HAVE to move the cursor to the ok button. It would've been nice if they moved the cursor for you by default. Has an Undo button but it's buried in a menu and can only go back an max of one turn which is a bummer. Oh wait, I just discovered that Undo and Ok are mapped to R and L respectively. Never mind about my complaints! Decent time waster. Nearly as good as the old Windows version. 3 / 5 ...
