BlaZeon for SNES

Image: MobyGames

BlaZeon

Uninspired R-Type clone

Genre: shooter - horizontal

Publisher: Atlus

Year: 1992

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Uninspired R-Type clone Slow movement No weapon power ups. Yeah, not a single one. The gimmick that's supposed to compensate is the ability to commandeer some enemies. And by some I mean one per stage. And once you've got them your sprite is enormous and has a different gun again without any way to upgrade it. Just a boring game all around.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

What's the opposite of bullet hell? Short waves of enemies followed by, no joke, 15-30 seconds of nothing. Absolutely nothing. Sooooo boring

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Generic space shmup with no story whatsoever. Not even a demo that plays from the title screen. Nada

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

NES++ graphics. Pretty bland stuff. Not even any parallax scrolling to liven things up

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

I liked the music although it was a little bit too groovy. I suppose something more energetic wouldn't fit the game's slow pace. Unbearably bad sound effects that are way too loud.

Overall Score: 25
