College Football USA '97

Madden: T*HQ style

Genre: sports - football

Publisher: Black Pearl

Year: 1996

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 0

Gameplay Notes:

I'm shocked that EA asked THQ to make a game for them Moves at about 1 FPS. Painfully slow movement while all 22 players are on screen. Speeds up somewhat when fewer sprites are present which is jarring. It's like playing a PowerPoint presentation. Hit detection is nonexistent. You can run into and push an opponent for 2-3 seconds before anything happens. They stop your progress somewhat but you don't go down for a long time.

Level Design Score: 0

Level Design Notes:

Tournament, exhibition, and season modes The play selection menu is all weird. It's the standard Madden three buttons but they don't match the order of buttons on the controller. From left to right it's A, B, X when it should be Y, B, A. Reader: "Wait that sounds better than a zero. What gives?" Me: " This game is so awful that I'm bending the rules. I'm giving it no credit here to punish it."

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

NCAA license so all the college teams

Art Style Score: 0

Art Style Notes:

Sprites look a bit off. As noted previously the game barely functions. Animation is nonexistent

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Blah sounds

Overall Score: 5
