Gameplay

Not too shabby. Movement is slow but the arena is large so it's easy to set up a play on offense.
Unfortunately the AI is bad. Opponents mostly stay away from you, at least on the beginner difficulty. Your teammates stand around and don't do much.
Pass and shoot are quick. No long animations here. Passing works well.
Extra button for a flip on offense and a poke on defense. Seem unnecessary.

Level Design

All the usual modes.
A side or a vertical camera view.
There's no crowd in vertical mode.
Difficult levels and you can disable penalties and offsides.

NHL license and ESPN (back when they were good).

Art Style

Very nice sprites, but minimal animation. Player models are bigger and more realistic than other hockey games. No background to speak of.

Some voice samples and ESPN menu music. In game is just static crowd noise.

Includes an unbelievably annoying weight system, limiting both what you can carry and what your character can use as a weapon. If you’re overloaded, you are unable to move. After buying a few things at the weapons shop I thought the game was broken. I had to Google it and read about this weight mechanic. So stupid. It makes the game nigh unplayable. Even with a minimal inventory of a knife, a helm, and two food rations I could barely walk.
