Generations Lost

Prince of Persia starring a Wolverine cosplayer

Genre: adventure - platform

Publisher: Time Warner Interactive

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

So it's a Prince of Persia type game with extremely wooden controls. You can attack with a punch, jump, crouch and roll, and shoot a laser thing that lets you grapple directly upward.. Most of the gameplay is platforming and moving from station to station solving a little puzzle or combat or platforming segment. After about 5 minutes, you've done everything that you can and so the rest of the games seemingly is doing those three things in a different order or whatever. Long story short is it gets boring very quickly.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

I played for almost an hour and there was never a break. It just kept going and going and going. Every now and then you find a checkpoint which is good because your health just slowly dwindles until it's gone and you respawn at the most recent checkpoint. Every now and then you find a treasure but I can't figure out what any of the items you pick up do for you. Maybe their power-ups but I can't figure out how to use them. Again, after a few minutes you've done everything that you can and the levels, if you want to call them that, just ask you to perform tasks in a different order.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

I think it's some sort of Phantom story where you're a jungle nomad who inherits an advanced suit and now it's your job to rid the world of...something.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Unreadable text. Why can't everyone use a decent font? Extremely pixelated. Large, well drawn sprites. Your character looks like Wolverine wearing knickers. Backgrounds are blah but have some animations which make them feel organic.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

The soundtrack is beating of drums. It's more of a ambiance than an actual song. Something you might expect from the Lion King or some other jungle themed game. Pretty uninteresting. There's virtually no sound effects other than when you get electrocuted by the various environmental hazards.

Overall Score: 40
