James Bond 007: The Duel

Go watch The Living Daylights instead

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: Tengen

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Tank controls. Turning, jumping, and ducking are an absolute chore. Infinitely spawning enemies. 30% draw distance. Unlimited ammo but randomly and infrequently you reload. No idea what causes it. Enemies fire when they see you and don't stop. No i-frames so they can destroy you quickly. Short jump and no way to move during jump. Terrible controls. Extreme knockback. Throws you across the screen. Fall damage.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Ok designs but level objectives are to find all hostages, then an item, and get to the exit. Sigh Lots and lots of ladders with terrible hit detection.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

It's James Bond! But there's NO cutscenes, level intros, or any other story. There's not much Bond about this game.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Tiny sprites that animate well. The background are interesting. Nothing terribly great. No effects or anything really happening.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Some well written songs that just aren't good. First level is especially obnoxious. Just a loud beat. Sounds are bizarre. Jumping and landing sound like crashing on a drum.

Overall Score: 30
