Stiff controls. The less you jump the better. Basically this is Shinobi without any platforming. Or maybe it's Altered Beast with less memorization required? The gimmick is that you collect rings and can combine them to creat different attacks. You can put two on each hand. I enjoyed finding them strongest combinations. I could. The most part I just found a fast projectiles and then use those to clear out on me is soon as they got on the screen. Only one life. Very difficult
