NBA Action '95 Starring David Robinson

A View from the Rafters

Genre: sports - basketball

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1995

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Completely different than Action 94. They abondoned the game engine for a brand new one. Arcade mode only. They gave up trying to compete with NBA Live on making a simulation game. Imposible to play defense. Opponents slip around or through you with ease and seemingly cannot be blocked. Lame Offense isn't much better. They steal and block you all the time. Meh Movement is very fast

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Exhibition and season modes. No tournament/playoffs Difficulty levels - although I can't win at Rookie. Can turn fouls, injuries, and fatigue off to make a de facto arcade mode.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

NBA and NBAPA licenses. Lackluster presentation, but not too bad.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Top-down view with an ever-so-slight tilt. Not quite as bad as Bill Laimbeer, but it's a weird view of the screen. Sprites are ok but again you're looking at them almost from directly above them. They scale weirdly when jumping which doesn't look good. Not bad, but just weird.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

Horribly scratchy sound quality. Serious. Some of the worst voice samples on the system. Marv Albert has never sounded so terrible.

Overall Score: 37
