NBA Jam for SNES

NBA Jam

Not as good as you remember

Genre: sports - basketball

Publisher: Acclaim

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Floaty, imprecise controls. Getting "on fire" is a ton of fun, so long as it's not done against you. 2v2 gameplay so it's easy to keep track of what's happening on the court. Ball tends to fly way above the court making it nerly impossible to tell where it is in the depth of field. Hard to get rebounds. More a game of luck than skill as steals and blocks are a crapshoot. Gameplay is not deep. Fun for about 5 minutes at a time but no more.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Simple arcade modes - single game or a never-ending tournament.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

NBA and NBAPA but only two players per team. The arcade motif is nice but exaggerated and again gets old rather quickly.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Very colorful. Runs smoothly. Great animation

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Announcer is epic. Good menu music.

Overall Score: 57
