Newman Haas' Indy Car featuring Nigel Mansell

You shall not PASS!

Genre: racing - simulation

Publisher: Acclaim Entertainment

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Cars are so huge that it's nearly impossible to pass them..they take at least 1/3 of the road. Excellent controls are ruined by a horrible racing experience. Lots of fun to play in Practice or Vs mode but horrible as a Championship racer. Controls are nice where you hold down the button on turns rather than making a ton of small button presses.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Same tracks as the Michael Andretti game but they have a lot more curves here.

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

All I can think of is Jerry Seinfeld saying "Newmannnn" Generic F1 racer. Menus and such look positively amateur when compared to the impressive in-game visuals. Really poor presentation. Oh and that title is one of the dumbest game names ever. Totally unapproachable

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Pales in compassion to the SNES version. Actually it's one of the uglier racing games I've seen. The animation in the cockpit is nice but the track and everything around it are a pixelated mess. The sense of speed is decent but man is everything else ugly.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Meh. Dumb menu music. In game sound is like every other racing game

Overall Score: 36
