Operation Thunderbolt

Operation Wolf with a bazooka

Genre: shooter - gallery

Publisher: Taito

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

In the first two levels you shoot what appears on screen but after that it's just a mess of activity on the screen. Just hold down on the firing button and wildly wave your cursor across the screen and hope that you don't die before the end of the level. It's pure randomness.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

For what it's worth the levels actually include some variety. Some have you traversing forward like a rail shooter while others pan to the right or left. There was even a level where you have to free hostages trapped behind locked doors who then get in the way of your shooting spree.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Typical Vietnam-era war setting. Shoot a bunch of bad guys.

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Unbelievably bad animation and scaling of sprites. Screenshots do no do justice to how ridiculous the movement of sprites across the screen actually looks. They pretty much teleport from place to place while moving. Sprites are also badly drawn with weird proportions and inconsistent look to them.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

No music while playing. The sounds are muffled and unimpactful. They also play seemingly when they feel like it. Sounds worse than most 8-bit games.

Overall Score: 29

Review ID: 396
