Pit-Fighter for SNES

Pit-Fighter

The first rule of Pit Fighter is we do not talk about Pit Fighter

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: T*HQ

Year: 1992

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 0

Gameplay Notes:

Impossibly bad controls. There are two buttons and occasionally something else happens like a piledriver but who knows how it occurs. The worst hit detection in any video game. Ever. There is no way to reliably predict what will happen after pressing a button. Completely grounded gameplay. No jumping. The game ostensibly takes place in multiple planes like Final Fight but your characters moves so slowly compared to the opponent that you may as well just stay put, especially since hits seem to transcend planes ala Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

Level Design Score: 0

Level Design Notes:

Every fight takes place in the same arena with the worst looking crowd you've ever seen. It's just a repeating sequence of poorly drawn tiles that animate between two frames.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

I mean, it's just Fight Club. Or maybe that parking lot scene from Lionheart (remember Jean Claude Van Damme)?

Art Style Score: 0

Art Style Notes:

Easily the worst graphics I've seen in a 16 bit fighting game. Tiny sprites with only a couple of frames of animation. Definitely the precursor to Mortal Kombat. Super ugly everything

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

Some beep beep sounds stand in for music Horrible quality sound effects of punches and grunts

Overall Score: 2
