Plok! for SNES

Plok!

Rayman: the prequel

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Tradewest

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 5

Gameplay Notes:

Throw your arms and legs at enemies, jump and high jump are the moves. Occasional powerups give you a shotgun or flamethrower. Amazing controls. Very nearly Nintendo quality. Most levels require you to collect stuff or kill all enemies. I rather enjoyed them. Throwing body parts is fun and actually changes the gameplay somewhat so it requires some skill as well. Unique gameplay that works quite well. I would've liked to see some sequels.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Some mazes but mostly linear levels with some vertical spaces kind of like Super Star Wars. Lots of sloped platforms which make it harder to use your limb throws since they go laterally. The kill all the enemy levels require extensive exploration which can be fun but also annoying when you missed just one thing. Overall a lot of original ideas, most of which work but some which don't.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

You're a Rayman wannabe whose angry at fleas for stealing his flags. Yeah. Pretty weird.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Looks like a clown's fever dream. The models aren't exactly speaking but the artwork and animation are excellent. Stupendous, really.

Audio Score: 5

Audio Notes:

Wow. I had heard this game has a nice soundtrack but this is incredible.

Overall Score: 85
