Predator 2 for Genesis
Review #4448
Predator 2
Gameplay
Isometric view but movement is relative to your controller so up is up and left is left, etc.
Movement is good although turning isn't instantaneous so hitting your target is challenging. All weapons have a spread effect which somewhat alleviates the difficulty of aiming.
Your objective is to find and reach hostages before the Predator can target and destroy them. Little arrows appear to show you where to go next, as well as the Predator's three red laser target moving toward its target.
The gameplay is a bit shallow but it's fun.
I wish it could be a twin stick shooter!
Level Design
It's essentially the same level over and over again, just with an increasing number of enemies spawning around you. And by level 6 the number of enemies is utterly ridiculous.
Some variety or different kinds of objectives would've been nice.
Theme
The dev did a great job of turning a so-so sci-fi movie license into an interesting game. I'm just glad it wasn't adapted into a boring sidescroller.
The Predator is ever present even though he's rarely shown on screen.
Art Style
Nice sprite work, but the whole world is ugly. It's a dark, dingy world that is not enjoyable to look at.
Audio
Music isn't offensive but it's one of those sountracks that's mostly a series of metallic "bwaaaa, bwaaaa" sounds to go with a drum beat.
Sounds are decent but they're repetitive since you're doing nothing but shooting the entire time.
