Radical Rex for Genesis

Radical Rex

Tyranno wrecks

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Activision

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Moves include jump (no bop), utterly useless kick which doesn't connect with any enemy's hitbox, roar (clear the screen), and shoot flame. Only the flame is any use but it requires ammo which is plentiful on the first level but is rare in the second. Lots of things that look innocuous will insta-kill you, like the top of a log that you can slide down if you're inside it. Decent controls

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Bubsy clone. Mostly linear, but verticality to encourage collecting eggs. Get enough and you earn a mini game at the end of the rather long levels. The skateboard segments are kind of fun but the draw distance makes them tough to complete without taking damage. Level 3 is the inards of a huge dinosaur but its a maze with numerous paths but no sense of progression or direction. Feels completely aimless.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

One of the many many mascot with a 'tude platformers.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Nice use of color. Easy to see platforms and enemies in foreground.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Whoever made this was an Earthworm Jim and TMNT fan. Excessive exclamations of "awesome", "radical" and such.

Overall Score: 57
