Road Riot 4WD

Super Terrible Kart

Genre: racing - arcade

Publisher: T*HQ

Year: 1992

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Horrendous framerate. It's a good thing the controls are so forgiving because it's nearly impossible to know when to turn. Wait Howard Phillips is the executive producer?! 4 karts per race. Screen is always split like SMK You can shoot with L or R but it doesn't do anything so Zim not sure why it's included. Racers stay in a pack so you're either in 1st or 4th.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Nothing noteworthy. All turns are the same whether they're small or hairpin turns. There's verticality which doesn't go well with the framerate. Races take place across the world, like in ice, desert, forests etc.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Silly setting with very not PC NOCs hosting each race.

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Artwork is pixelated and not too cute but the framerate is awful.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

The Atari pedigree is clear. The sound of the pellets you shoot is the sound from some 2600 game. I can't place it but I know it's from a game. Otherwise terrible sound design. Just like the framerate the sounds are disconnected from what is happening on screen.

Overall Score: 26
