Rocket Knight Adventures for Genesis
Review #4486
Rocket Knight Adventures
The best game starring an Opposum
Gameplay
Plays just like Sparkster on the SNES with its interesting but annoying movement tech. The dash feature must be charged up for a couple of seconds and sends you flying across roughly two screens.
Floaty, slippery controls.
Constantly charging your shot is tiresome.
Enemies have weird movement patterns.
Having said all that the core controls are responsive.
Optional collectables which mostly just show you where to go.
Unfortunately there's a lot of slowdown when using your spin attack and during some of the hectic boss battles.
Level Design
Must memorize the level to kill enemy wave optimally, avoid endless pits, and platform properly.
Tons of memorable set pieces.
Linear levels. No mazes here. Thank you!
Cool boss fights.
Theme
Silly 90s animophic mascot. Good stuff
Art Style
This is as good as it gets on the Genesis. Great sprites, interesting background with parallax, huge bosses, screen filling explosiond and flashing effects, an easy to read HUD, great animation, good color, etc.
Audio
Again this is about as good as it gets on the Genesis. The sound quality isn't great but the tracks are good and the sound effects are amazing. Typical Konami goodness
