Star Fox for SNES
Review #525
Star Fox
Nice poly guns
Gameplay
What's not to like? Controls are responsive or at least manageable.
Agreed banking or turning your shop floats back toward center which eliminates the need to make micro corrections. It's forgiving in that regard
Projectiles coming toward you take their time which gives you time to avoid them.
Level Design
The gameplay is simple but the levels have a great deal of variety. Probably the greatest strength of this game.
Locales are distinct, including sunny planets, asteroid belts, an armada of ships, etc. The levels themselves have a lot going on and obstacles and set pieces that don't repeat over and over.
Branching paths add replayability
Theme
Lovely presentation
The cartoony characters give it a light-hearted feeling while the setting is full of homage to awesome sci-fi games and movies
Art Style
Early polygons haven't aged well. The low framerate looked great at the time but it choppy now
Audio
Fantastic music and sound but some annoying sounds, like the "voices" of your fellow pilots, hold it back
