Street Fighter II
Bringing the arcade homeGenre: fighting - 1v1
Publisher: Capcom
Year: 1992
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Let's be honest, this set the template for all fighting games that followed. Only 8 fighters Rather slow gameplay Some overpowered characters like Guile with his leg sweep and long reach on his jump kick. Lots of slowdown on big hits like throws.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Story and versus modes Arenas are interesting with some animation
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Generic worldwide tournament. The characters are iconic but the theme is generic.
Art Style Score: 5
Art Style Notes:
Stunning artwork, especially in the sprites. They have proper proportions, have vibrant colors, and excellent shading gives them a 3D quality. Backgrounds also look great and are distinctly different from one another. The only knock I can give it is the frequent slowdown
Audio Score: 5
Audio Notes:
Incredible, catchy music. Love how the music's tempo increases as a fighter's health gets low. Satisfying sounds like connecting with a punch or kick, the timer counting down, and the grunts and moans of the fighters.
Overall Score: 79
