Super Battletank: War in the Gulf

Desert Wing Commander

Genre: simulation - tank/mech

Publisher: Absolute

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Basically Wing Commander on a 2D plane. Switch to overhead map to navigate to a target and then when you get there take out the tank or copter there. Pretty rudimentary. Controls are ok but simple like all these early FPS games. The only other controls are Select to switch between shells, machine gun, and a laser guided missile, plus speed up and down. Shallow gameplay wears out its welcome fast.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Gameplay doesn't differ between stages. Only the enemies and their placement changes.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Desert Storm the video game. Nice presentation with a detailed briefing beforehand and a press conference bragging about the results afterward.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Basic stuff. First person view with almost nothing to look at. Just an endless sandy horizon. Animation is minimal although the tank sprites have nice detail.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

What audio?

Overall Score: 33

Review ID: 553
