Super Monaco GP for Genesis
Review #4566
Super Monaco GP
For simulation fans
Gameplay
Turns are short and abrupt. You have to use your brake to make it around them.
Cockpit view. The top 20% of the screen shows your rear view mirror.
Very much a simulation game.
Feels slow, no minimal sense of speed.
Controls are responsive. You can hold down in a long turn without having to make a lot of little adjustments.
Level Design
16 tracks. Practice, GP, and Championship modes.
Theme
Has one of the dumbest looking title screens ever in a racing game. It's a sexy model in a bathing suit next to the boring sign you've ever seen. And the sign doesn't even have the name of the game. Despite the ho hum title screen the presentation within the game is quite good. The HUD is well designed and packed with functionality. Makes you feel like a racecar driver.
Art Style
Not too shabby in terms of the cockpit and animations, but the track doesn't move fast. The framerate is choppy and overall doesn't look good.
Audio
Truly awful sound effects. Garbled voice samples. None of the sounds best any resemblance to the sound they represent.
No in-game music.
