Troddlers
Lemmings meets Lode RunnerGenre: puzzle - platform
Publisher: Seika
Year: 1993
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Completing a level is satisfying, like other games in this genre, but the controls are not good. In fact, the controls remind me of Lode Runner...and I hate Lode Runner. Your character can only jump up one tile so the main challenge of the game isn't solving the puzzle - it's platforming such that you can place the pieces to solve the puzzle. As a result it's quite frustrating. Placing a tile is also a chore. You have to hold down on the B button, move a cursor to one of the three tiles in front of you, and let go while holding the cursor there. It feels imprecise and tiring.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Every level feels more or less the same - build a stairstep ladder up or down to the exit. I got bored more quickly that I did with Lemmings or Push Over.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Looks and feels like a Lemmings copycat, which makes you wish you were playing Lemmings instead.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Like other games in this genre the simple graphics do the job. However, everything uses very dark colors which gives the game a dreary feeling.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Decent music which is upbeat and cheery. This conflicts with the dreary graphics. Minimal sounds
