Tyrants: Fight Through Time

Ergonomically terrific

Genre: strategy - rts

Publisher: Virgin Interactive

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

The limitations of using a controller are mitigated a bit by moving the cursor from up and down between predetermined spots so you don't have to precisely touch specific places. You only have a handful of things to do, including assigning people to create inventions to be in an army to defend your fort or to mine resources. There's not too much to track which I appreciate.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

The objective is to advance your people as far as you want to take them before you go and destroy the other people on the island. You have multiple islands in a world and a limited number of people to distribute between them so there's some strategic planning required. Difficulty ramps up quickly

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

God sim where you're fighting other Gods. You take a race of people from the Stone age to a more advanced civilization. It's silly fun.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Very simple animation and designs. It looks more like an 8 bit title than 16. Grainy graphics and washed out colors.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Horrible quality sounds, but the music is ethereal and the voice samples are hilariously quotable. "Ergonomically terrific." "We've advanced a tech level!"

Overall Score: 66
