Zero Tolerance

Aliens Colonial Marines...in Earth orbit

Genre: shooter - fps

Publisher: Accolade

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Tiny view screen. Faceball 2000 might have a larger viewport Momentum issues when moving. Takes a second to get started and even longer to stop. Combat in an open area is frustrating. On screen map with enemy dots works well Enemies for before they're in sight so they always score cheap shots. Plays fast, tho not at the Doom level. Generous hit detection

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Clear all enemies from each level. No secrets. Just kill all the bad guys Lots of large rooms with wide open spaces.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

It's Aliens. A colony/space station has been taken over by aliens and the Marines have been brought in to clear them out before the station goes nuclear.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

The screen is tiny so the sprites are similarly small. What's here looks decent, especially the textures on the walls. The sprites are not very alien. They look like any other generic humans. The artwork on the pause screen and whatnot is very good. Naturally the game is extremely dark

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

A very faint voice sample plays everytime you pick something up. You'll hear "Handgun collected" dozens of times per level. Quiet and very repetitive music. Audio clues when an enemy appears. Nice Lame pew pew sounds for the handgun. Shotgun is much more satisfying.

Overall Score: 42
