Gameplay

Now this is unique. It's a single-button, single-shot puzzle game where timing is literally everything. As in, there's no other gameplay mechanic. Admittedly, you can curve your shot somewhat using R or L, but basically you just need to hit the button at the exact right moment. Imagine bowling, but the pins are moving and hitting one specific pin at the right moment will cause all pins to fall down. The challenge is in determining which one to hit and when. Obviously, the "pins" are bombs because this is Bomberman.

While there isn't much to it, with save states it's possible to cruise through every level and see the whole game. You still have to reason it out, but it's fun to skip all the bad throws. In fact, it reminds me of Kirby's Dream Course for that same reason.

Level Design

Very clever. Yeah it's a one trick pony but thre are 100 levels! And it's so satisfying to figure out a tricky stage. There are competitive modes but really the levels are all that matters. Plus you can pick your stage so it's very approachable and fun for pick up and play.

Theme

Hudson knows how to package a Bomberman game. You can choose between six different Bomberman variants.

Art Style

Good stuff. Not much going on, but everything is cute and consistent.

Audio

Has a great soundtrack, like most Hudson games and all Bomberman titles. The bombs exploding have a satisfying sound.
