Cyborg 009

Unfun Star Heroes

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: Bandai

Year: 1994

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Plays like it wishes it was Gunstar Heroes, but with horribly laggy inputs. Feels unfinished. Momentum based movement results in a lot of tall but narrow jumps. Oh and jumps are high and floaty. There are nine playable characters but only their movement tech is different. They each use the same electricity gun weapon. Enemies have no knockback so they just move through you and them. They don't feel real, like they're part of the level. You can switch between characters via a super long animation.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Levels are almost completely devoid of enemies. Most are stationary of barely move at all. Enemies respawn when they exit the screen and have small, predictable patterns.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Cartoony take on Mega Man, if he was part of a family of robots. Like, I don't know, Mega Man meets Shazam. Unfortunately, nothing about the levels suggest a futuristic setting.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

The sprites look good, but everything else is just bland. Visual effects like weapon fire looks horrible.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Great, energetic music that sounds like something from Capcom. Sounds effects are fine.

Overall Score: 42
