Drift King Shutokou Battle '94 Keichii Tsuchiya

Sega Rally lite

Genre: racing - simulation

Publisher: Bulletproof

Year: 1994

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

There aren't many drift-centric racing games on the SNES so this one feels a bit novel. the physics feel pretty good, although I suck at drifting. So, not my kind of racer, but it plays ok.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

The game includes a Story, Practice, and 2P VS mode. Unfortunately, the Story mode is text heavy and thus unapproachable to an English speaker. The Practice mode is nice for getting familiar with the controls but it's lonely out there. That only leaves the 2P mode which of course isn't helpful on your own. So, this game has very little to offer to the average retro gamer.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Nice presentation, with most menu items in English. The four usable cars look like your dad's first compact car. Not an exciting bunch of vehicles.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

You only get half the screen. The other half doesn't show anything interesting either. It's just the rear view mirror or a few other useless camera positions. This works ok for a game like SMK which shows a useful map, but here it only makes your viewport tiny.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Lame music. The sounds are good and the balance between sound and music is good.

Overall Score: 35

Review ID: 1616
