Super Ninja-kun for SFC

Super Ninja-kun

Adorable Ninja Gaiden

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: Jaleco

Year: 1994

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Sluggish controls. I felt like I was fighting them the whole time. They're momentum based so umping from a standstill gives you almost no horizontal movement. You can double tap to dash but most platforms are too short to use this, and besides, your dash ends when you leave the platform. Combat is fun. You can bop enemies or shoot them with shurikens, bombs, lightning, and other projectiles you gain after beating a level. Enemies constantly spawn. I mean CONSTANTLY. They leave a collectable spirit which fills a meter and can be turned in for a shadow, like Ninja Gaiden 2.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

The levels have a lot of verticality. Hidden paths can be opened by bombs. The second level is on an airship and third is in a lava filled cave. The heat effects in this area looks awesome. Levels are short and end with a boss.

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

Super cute and two player co-op. My daughter said it looks like a Kirby game, but with little ninjas.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Again, very cute.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

The music starts out cute but gets tedious. Way too fast paced.

Overall Score: 69
