Novastorm for Sega CD

Novastorm

Generic corridor shooter #12

Genre: shooter - corridor

Publisher: Psygnosis

Year: 1994

System: Sega CD

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

It's a corridor shooter like Star Fox. Your ship has an enormous hitbox. Good luck avoiding damage. Enemies, on the other hand, are incredibly hard to hit. Could've been great. Bosses are damage sponges and don't give any indication that you're damaging them.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

The video jerks and swoops around with reckless abandon. It's almost nauseating. Still, it's showy and keeps your attention. Some areas have collision which makes the stage feel more interactive than most of these FMV games.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Pretty generic spaceship game, but the models look great.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Maybe I've seen too many FMV titles in a row here, but the video here doesn't look half bad. Not half good either, mind you. I'm rounding up here, but I'll give credit where it's due. The background is complete FMV but there's almost no repeating clips.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

The music is so so so bad. Awful stuff. Why use CDs if your music isn't CD quality?

Overall Score: 46
