Winter Gold for SNES PAL

Image: MobyGames

Winter Gold

Pretty. Boring.

Genre: minigame - n/a

Publisher: Nintendo

Year: 1996

System: SNES PAL

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Like all these Olympics games, the gameplay is incredibly thin. There are six events, but really only five. They have decent controls, but are so shallow that I have no reason to revisit them.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Only six events, downhill skiing, half pipe, freestyle ski jump, long ski jump, skeleton, and bobsled. The last two are identical. You can choose three courses for each - Lilehammer, Salt Lake City, and something else - but these too are identical with each other. So yeah, it's hollow as could be.

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

The vibe is Olympics in a disco. The jazzy music and bubbly animations don't match my vision for the world greatest competition.

Art Style Score: 5

Art Style Notes:

Wow. The FX chip is out to great use here. A fantastic frame rate and impressive animations.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Dorky music

Overall Score: 35
