688 Attack Sub
Hunt for Bored OctoberGenre: simulation - tank/mech
Publisher: Sega
Year: 1991
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 0
Gameplay Notes:
I'll give it credit for trying something different, but this game was very, very, very obviously made for a mouse and keyboard and should never have been ported to a console.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Ten missions. I guess if you're really into military tactics you might geek out on the scenarios presented here but I was bored to tears. I just want to shoot stuff so watching numbers and dots on a tiny screen isn't my idea of fun.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
I love the idea of piloting a sub like on Hunt for Red October or Crimson Tide so this game really appeals to me. But the presentation is severely lacking outside of some fun dialogue in the mission briefings and debriefings.
Art Style Score: 0
Art Style Notes:
Let's be honest - this is one of the worst looking games ever released in the 16-bit era. It's an obvious PC port but even so it is the barest of bones.
Audio Score: 0
Audio Notes:
No music. Sounds are limited to a scratchy engine noise and some beeps and boops here and there. Oh and a small set of pretty decent voice samples. But yeah, this game should be run silent and deep.
