Air Zonk
Bonk...ersGenre: shooter - horizontal
Publisher: TTI
Year: 1992
System: TurboGrafx-16
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Tons of weapons and familiars who follow you and fire automatically. If you power up you can combine with your familiar for some truly bizarre combos, like a Robo Cat that fires the word BOW as a vertical projectile. Movement is fast and speed can be adjusted by pressing select. The screen scrolls a tiny bit up and down. Your weapons feel like they fill the screen because they have a slight homing aspect to them. It makes the game fairly easy making this an accessible shooter. Despite the good aspects this is a fairly straightforward shooter experience
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Lovely design for enemy waves and interesting events. The levels don't require much dexterity tho. There difficulty levels.
Theme Score: 5
Theme Notes:
Utterly bonkers. Distinct and memorable across the board.
Art Style Score: 5
Art Style Notes:
Wow. Impressive sprites and effects. Extensive use of parallax scrolling. Enormous boss sprites. A tiny bit of slowdown.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Awesome music! I was bopping along to all of them. They're kind of a mix between 8-bit NES Capcom Disney music and Legend of the Mystical Ninja. They might be an acquired taste for some.
