Alien Crush for TurboGrafx-16

Alien Crush

I'm pretty sure you play as Ripley

Genre: arcade - pinball

Publisher: NEC

Year: 1989

System: TurboGrafx-16

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Pinball doesn't get any better than this. Fair and consistent physics, interesting events to trigger, and responsive controls. Good stuff

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

The table has two levels plus a hidden special stage of you get the ball into the monster's mouth. I wish there was another table but what's here is awesome

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

The Geiger-esque Alien theme is perfectly realized. Everything but the ball is techno-organic nightmare fuel - in a good way. The developers obviously watched a lot of the first two Alien movies but those influences only make this games look and feel all the more real.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Beautiful stuff. The animations are particularly impressive.

Audio Score: 5

Audio Notes:

There are only two songs. They're both creepy and moody. The sound effects are even better. The ball bleeps and bloops as it hits obstacles and the monsters give off little roars of disapproval when they are hit. It again has a techno-organic feel to it.

Overall Score: 83
