Gameplay

This is the prequel to the Best of the Best games on Gen and SNES. You hold a direction on the d-pad and then press a button to execute one of dozens of attacks.
Quickly becomes a button masher since the game rarely does what you tell it to do. Even when it does it's such a slow and grounded fight that the experience is incredibly boring. I guess it's supposed to be a simulation, but man is it boring.
Also, the scoring system is confusing. I knocked down the opponent dozens of time but never took off any health. Took me a while to figure out that the traffic lights above the ring were actually a health meter.
Just a boring game

Theme

Karate matches aren't a dynamic source material

Art Style

Sprites are very detailed and well animated. However they're very small.
There's only one arena so there's nothing to look at.
Drab colors

Audio

No music. Just grunts and yelps
