Ballz 3D: Fighting at its Ballziest

At least it's bouncy

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Accolade

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 0

Gameplay Notes:

Button masher if ever there was such a thing Pseudo 3D effect is impressive until you try to navigate the arena in hopes of getting close enough to attack. Hint: it's incredibly frustrating Controls are virtually unusable. Punch, kick, and jump buttons. No idea if there are special moves Enemies seem to have projectile moves that you don't have Even on easy difficulty it's impossible hard. Enemies constantly put you in a never ending stun lock

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Just 1v1 fights

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

As expected the Sega version is even more raunchy and juvenile that l than the SNES version. Can I assign a negative number?

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Impressive tech demo but the constantly rotating mode 7 floor combined with the scrolling background quickly become nauseating. The ahem Ballz characters are similar to but less interesting to look at than Sega's Vectorman. Performance is much better in this version than the SNES version but the style on display here is horrid.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Music is spastic and bouncy. Weird but quite interesting. Sound effects are truly awful. Characters grunt and moan. Horrible stuff

Overall Score: 11
