Battle Clash

The reason to own a Super Scope

Genre: shooter - gallery

Publisher: Nintendo

Year: 1992

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Basically this is Punch Out with a gun. Each fight is a one on one battle against an ethnic caricature where victory is determined by your ability to act and react to the opponent's moves. Auditory and visual cues let you know what is coming.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Each fight is a puzzle. Figure out what to hit, how to hit it, and the best technique to use. It's a short game so some extra levels or modes would've been nice.

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

A surprisingly deep story involving alien oppressors, plot twists, self sacrifice, and honor among thieves. There are even multiple endings. The setting is also awesome. Plus, mech games are always good.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Screen filling sprites. Animation is excellent and the game uses a consistent visual style to communicate targets, threats, movement and damage. Wonderful use of color. Awesome player models.

Audio Score: 5

Audio Notes:

Amazing music and sound design.

Overall Score: 73
