Blazing Lazers for TurboGrafx-16

Image: MobyGames

Blazing Lazers

Lame sound. With frickin lasers! Sorry, lazers

Genre: shooter - vertical

Publisher: NEC

Year: 1989

System: TurboGrafx-16

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Not quite perfect shoot em up gameplay. Power-ups abound and therein lies the problem. This game is incredibly easy so the biggest challenge is in avoiding powerups you don't want. Screen filling weapons are fun but again make the game insanely easy.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Levels are nice but all feel about the same. Bosses are very easy. Good but not great

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Zero intro. Just start shooting stuff. The lame sounds really limits the X factor

Art Style Score: 5

Art Style Notes:

Wow. Amazing stuff with no hint of slowdown. Love the colorful and robust sprites. The weapons feature impressive effects. They're almost as much fun to watch as anything else

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Dorky music! Dorky sounds! What a massive disappointment! My son said the music was wimpy and my daughter said it sounded like it "belonged in a Zelda game and not in an epic space game."

Overall Score: 75
