Brandish for SNES
Review #74
Brandish
Bland-ish
Gameplay
Dungeon crawler with a topdown perspective.
You can see the dungeon which is nice.
Combat is in real time and enemies can charge right through you to deal damage. No real way to prevent it from happening.
No party to deal with, it's just you.
Weird cursor activated by holding L or R. Could've just used an action button instead but whatever.
Enemies spawn infinitely. Couldn't find any health so I guess it's a game of attrition and you're guaranteed to lose eventually.
The dungeon rotates around you so you're always pointing upward. Super disorienting but the map helps
Level Design
The map and topdown view make it far more accessible than most dungeon crawlers, if a bit less immersive
Couldn't figure out how to exit the first area. Baffling design
Theme
No personality. The menu looks more interesting than the rest of the game
Art Style
I had high hopes but the sprites are tiny with virtually no animation. The rotating dungeon is uncomfortable. Not great to look at or watch
Audio
Uninspired music and little sound
