Brutal: Paws of Fury

Zoo Nope ia

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: GameTek

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Enemies love to stun lock you even on lowest difficulty. You can also abuse this by pushing the enemy to the edge and mashing the weak attack. Not as difficult as the SNES version but still stupid hard. Standard SF2 controls but with only 3 buttons you only have a weak, med, or heavy kick. Bad hit detection and minimal reaction to getting hit. It just doesn't feel very tactile. Feels like if one of the bad THQ licensed games were a fighting game. For example if you jump and land inside the opponent's hit box you both sort of slide away from one another. You can attack during this movement but the hits won't register until your hitboxes are no longer touching.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Lots of stuff in the foreground obscures the view. No animation in the background Interesting but kinda boring as well

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

I'm not a furry so yeah, this does nothing for me. Has a Kung Fu Panda vibe, just without any personality

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Smooth animation and we'll drawn artwork. It's just kinda boring.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Music is Chinese stuff and is pleasant...but it does nothing to get you pumped for a fist fight. The music doesn't even stop when a round or match ends. It just keeps going like it doesn't care what's happening on screen. Sounds are minimal which again saps much of the excitement

Overall Score: 37
