Captain Commando

Did Capcom outsource this arcade port?

Gameplay

What happened? Did Capcom forget how to port an arcade game? Did they outsource the project? Did they rush it to market? How did they botch it so completely?
Slow movement. The game feels like it's stuck in mud.
Standard attacks and throws. Nothing new or different for the genre.
The only positive is the four playable characters which each play differently. Or at least they're interesting to play as.

Level Design

Standard stuff for the most part, but some levels have vertical sections. No environmental hazards. Variety in the locales at least.

Theme

What the heck is going on here? There's quirk and then there's eccentric. This clearly is the latter, with nothing resembling a coherent theme. Totally weird, screwball, and strange, this game goes over the top and succeeds for the most part. It's unique anyway.

Art Style

The artwork itself isn't terrible but the animation is horrible. Feels like it's missing at least every other frame of animation.

Audio

Some of the worst music I've heard in a video game, much less a Capcom game. It sounds like a toddler banging on an air guitar. Just horrible in every way.
Sounds aren't much better.
