Castlevania: Dracula X for SNES
Review #99
Castlevania: Dracula X
Rondo of Blood lite
Gameplay
Simple two-button controls
Classic pre-SotN Castlevania gameplay
Responsive controls
Can only whip in one direction which is a disappointing step back from Castlevania IV
Fair enemies with predictable patterns
Much better than people give it credit
Level Design
Good level design with interesting set pieces like a monster bull dragging its exposed hip bones as he chases you across the screen. However, it's nowhere near as good as IV or Bloodlines. Lots of cheap enemy placement and few branching paths.
Theme
It's Castlevania
Art Style
Lovely.
Beautifully drawn comic-quality sprites
Terrific environments and backgrounds with impressive effects such as flames in level 1
Audio
Great music and sound. One of the most iconic soundtracks ever.
