Casper for SNES

Casper

A Girl and her Blob

Genre: adventure - platform

Publisher: Natsume

Year: 1997

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Platforming in zero Gs. Yeah, it's terrible. Movement is incredibly floaty - perhaps the worst I've ever seen. Unclear what the objective is. You collect powerups that you can transform into as well as toys that give points. But am I trying to get somewhere? Do something? Who knows Horrible hit detection is the cherry on the top. The girl follows you around for some reason and cowers when bad guys show up but she doesn't seem to take damage. Not sure why she's there tbh

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Series of connected screens in a brown mansion. Like 1/100th of Dracula's castle from SotN. Casper can float through walls...sometimes and can pick things up when he's not transformed into an item. Doesn't exactly capture the attention and make you want to continue. I got to point where I didn't know what else to do and I lost all interest in trying.

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

A Boy and his Blob is a great concept but this game doesn't do much with it. And it's a kid-friendly Halloween movie. Not an exciting premise.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Minimal animation. The girl's sprite is creepy. She looks like the girl from The Ring.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

The music fits the game just fine but I'm not going to seek it out. Sounds are also ok. So good sound design for the crappy theme of this game.

Overall Score: 24
