Chase H.Q. II

Burnout Takedown version 0.1

Genre: racing - vehicle combat

Publisher: Taito

Year: 1992

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Horrible hit detection. You drive through other cars half the time and crash into them the other half. Movement is really bad. Easily one of the least smooth racing titles I've ever played. Your goal is to crash into another car a whole bunch before times runs out. Doesn't hold a candle to Super Chase H.Q. on the SNES

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

They're all the same. The car changes and you get less time each level but the core gameplay doesn't change from level to level.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

I like the idea of crashing cars, but I'd rather do it in Burnout.

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Terrible framerate. Makes OutRun look like a Rembrandt painting.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

It's absolutely hilarious that this game includes a Sound Test. There's one song and over 100 different car engine noises which are the same sound at various pitches. They play continuously once started. The only way to turn them off is to power down the system. Hilarious. That said, the song is exciting and the other sounds effects work fine to express squealing tires and property damage. Voice samples are horrendous

Overall Score: 24
