Columns III
Genre: puzzle - blocks
Publisher: Vic Tokai
Year: 1994
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Same game. Same problems. It's a game of luck more than skill. Not fun. By the way, where's Columns 2? Not that I want to play it, but why did we jump to 3? Is this a Final Fantasy thing where Japan got it but US audiences were denied because it was too hard for our feeble brains?
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Ok fine they added a story mode where you battle a series of characters. At least I think you do. I can't beat the first one.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Sega clearly wanted to compete with Bust a Move. Gone are the Roman scupltures in favor of cartoony chickens.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
The new aesthetics are cute, but they added some weird blinking animation to the next block that's coming down the pipe which makes it hard to read. That's a huge part of this game so I'm taking a point for that misguided decision.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Cute, bouncy music.
