Cyberball for Genesis

Cyberball

The worst robo sports game?

Genre: sports - football

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1990

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

7v7 Madden style play selection. In fact the whole thing feels a bit like Madden. Gimmicks like exploding ball, fatigue, and players with robotic upgrades. Surprising depth in gameplay options. Actual movement is extremely unresponsive and frustrating.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Season only. No exhibition option!

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

Weird gimmicky sports title. Not quirky like the Mutant League titles. This one takes itself seriously like Base Wars.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

There are about 3 character models. They animate and move well but are ugly. The field is titled and it sits on a grey background. There's no crowd or sidelines. Feels like I'm playing electric football.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

A weird song plays constantly and cannot be turned off. There's a bunch of voice samples at the start and end of plays that actually are decent quality. But they get old. They're like a robotic voice.

Overall Score: 27

Review ID: 854
