Donkey Kong Country for SNES
Review #138
Donkey Kong Country
aka Diddy Kong Country
Gameplay
Has some of the western dev faults like indeterminate platforms and slippery controls
80% draw distance gives ample time to see obstacles even when cruising thru levels.
Great speed with no slowdown.
Very responsive controls
Save feature which is so rare in the genre in the 16 bit era
Level Design
Stunning level variety and design
So well crafted and full of secrets to encourage exploration and replay
Theme
I'm not a Donkey Kong fan.
Monkey-everything isn't appealing to me
Art Style
Prerendered graphics were impressive at the time but hadn't aged well.
Still, the animations are incredible, and effects like rain and underwater are so good they're distracting
Audio
In David Wise we trust. Incredible stuff
