Double Dragon V: The Shadow Falls

The other D&D

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Tradewest

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Not too shabby. If I liked fighting games I might even enjoy this game. SF2 clone in terms of controls Only figured out one special move. Shallow gameplay. Kinda weird how the game slides you away from the opponent. Happens sometimes when you punch but get blocked or if you stand too close to their hitbox.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Animation in the background give them personality. Tournament, Story, and 2 Player modes.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Apparently Double Dragon has lore? There's a "dragon" guru guy who orders Billy and Jimmy. All this time I though it was just rival gangs and whatnot. Whatever. Pretty goofy 90s stuff. The big boss is a Shredder wannabe. Pretty weird that this game is a weapons-based fighter. Why isn't it bare-knuckles, like all DD games that preceded it?

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Very cartoony. Obviously apeing the TMNT art style. Not bad Oddly, the backgrounds look less cartoony and sometimes don't feel quite right.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Very nice music and sound effects. Definitely a strength of the game.

Overall Score: 61

Review ID: 144
