Dragon Spirit for TurboGrafx-16

Image: MobyGames

Dragon Spirit

That's one fat dragon

Genre: shooter - vertical

Publisher: NEC

Year: 1989

System: TurboGrafx-16

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Another Xevious clone. The gimmick here is that you're a dragon which grows additional heads to add to your lethality. However, this makes your sprite become larger and wider. Taking a hit whittles down your health rather than downgrading your firepower. Prepare to die a lot. Movement is incredibly slow with no way to increase speed. Combine this with the your enormous sprite and the difficulty is stupid. I recommend Raiden instead of this game.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Lots of ground enemies. Good mix of air and ground. However nothing stands out.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

You're a dragon. That's the theme

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Early gen title

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Music is average at best. Sound isn't annoying

Overall Score: 48
