Exo Squad
Move Ripley's mech to the rightGenre: action - gun
Publisher: Playmates Interactive Entertainment
Year: 1995
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Sidescroller levels are in a giant mech where you can move forward, aim your turret up and down, and crouch. That's the extent of your move set. Oh and you can jump but there's no reason to. Enemies are easy to hit with the game's auto aim. The rail shooter levels are vomit inducing and there's no way to aim. They're awful. Level four inexplicably turns into a horrible 1v1 fighter. What the heck. As if the controls weren't terrible enough, they're fully exposed here
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Literally just walk right and shoot. Boring design. There aren't even any obstacles or platforms. You just go right. There are also rail shooter levels which are just as repetitive.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
90s edgy comic book style Story is told thru lengthy cartoon style cutscenes that make me wonder if this was a licensed title. Walking around in a mech suit is always cool so I want this game to be better than it is.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Stunning pixel art and sprite work...for your mech unit. All other sprites are simple by comparison. Heavy use of for ground elements which block out the entire screen. Very bright and colorful. Looks more like a SNES title. Pseudo scaling looks great in the rail shooter levels.
